In-N-Out Double-Double Animal Style Burger Recipe (No Onions)
In and Out Double-Double Animal Style Burger Copycat
From the first bite, all I could say was "Wow!" If you have been to In and Out, this recipe is as close to the real deal as you can get. Between the acidity in the sauce, the super juicy beef patties, refreshing lettuce, and cheesy patties, you will be wanting more! It blew my mind how much it tasted like the real thing.
We have a family of three and we each had our own version of this copycat recipe. I had a single patty, Kevin had our homemade version of the Double-Double Animal Style burger (without onions) and Jace had a double without the sauce. The burger was so juicy, the meat was perfectly cooked, it was one of those things where I took my first bite and my eyes closed and I just savored the first bite.

Why You Will Love This Copycat Burger
You will love this Double-Double Animal Style Burger for several reasons. The first is, you know exactly what is going into your meal by making it at home. The second is by making it fresh and homemade, you are saving yourself some money. For us, the nearest In-N-Out is more than 45 minutes away.
This recipe is not too difficult to make and you will probably have most of the items already on-hand. All we were missing was the hamburger wrapper and you wouldn't have even noticed it wasn't made from In-N-Out!
What Makes This Recipe Different?
I've tried my fair share of copycat recipes but not one recipe has come this close to the real thing. We adjusted some of the ingredients to make it our own and it still tasted like the exact style of burger. The sauce is really what makes it though. We had leftover sauce and it's stored in our fridge for later. Although the ingredients and directions are for the Double-Double Animal Style, you can customize and make this your own.
Inspiration
This recipe was inspired by AllRecipes. We make chicken recipes every other day and sometimes it's more challenging to find recipes that aren't chicken-related. We found this one and absolutely had to make it.
We removed the onions (we don't like onions) and tomato, used red wine vinegar in place of white vinegar, replaced the sugar with monkfruit, used olive oil instead of vegetable oil, we did not use butter, water, salt, or pepper, and we used garlic powder on the patty. A lot of ingredients and 100% worth it.

How to Store and Reheat
You can store burger patties in the fridge for up to 4 days. I would suggest making everything fresh as that is when it tastes the most like In-N-Out.
Add plastic wrap to the bowl with the sauce in it and keep it in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Adjust to Your Liking
- Add grilled onions if you prefer
- Serve with French fries or sweet potato fries
- We purchased a tomato that we were going to use but it was unfortunately not ready to use yet. You can add a tomato if you would like

- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 1/2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp pickle relish
- 1 tsp monk fruit sweetener (for a healthier sugar alternative)
- 3/4 tsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 tsp onion powder
- 5 beef patties (we use 90/10 when possible) - this was for 3 of us
- 4 tsp mustard
- 3 slices of American cheese
- 3 brioche buns
- Dill pickles
- Torn lettuce leaves
✓ Step #1: Make the sauce – In a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, monk fruit, and red wine vinegar. Mix well and move to the refrigerator.
✓ Step #2: Make patties – Form beef patties into a smash burger - I used a rolling pin and flattened the patties in between parchment paper. Spray a pan with cooking spray and cook on medium-high heat on the stove. Add 1 tsp mustard to the top layer along with 1 tsp onion powder. Cook for 2 minutes, flip and add 1 more tsp mustard and 1 more tsp of onion powder. Cook 2 more minutes.
✓ Step #3: Add cheese – At this point, they should be almost all the way cooked. Add cheese to the top, cover, and cook for 30 seconds. Remove from heat. Stack the patties.
✓ Step #4: Assemble your burger – Take the sauce out of the fridge and assemble your burger. Toast the brioche buns, add sauce to each bun. Layer the double patties followed by lettuce and pickles. Cut in half and enjoy!
