The Most Amazing Patty Melts You Will Ever Have
If you haven't tried a patty melt before, I highly recommend it. The traditional patty melt is two pieces of bread that come together with a flattened burger patty, Worcestershire sauce, and caramelized onions. We did ours a little bit different below, but still the same great taste. With only seven ingredients, you will want to add this to your weekly dinner menu. It's easy to make, the cheese just melts in your mouth and it's a recipe that the whole family will love!
Easy, cheesy Patty Melts with savory beef patties, melted cheese, and toasted bread—perfect for a quick family meal!
This is one of those recipes Kevin actually made first, and I still say he does it better than I do. When we first started dating, he talked about opening a restaurant someday, and honestly, after trying these patty melts, I believed him.
- Serving suggestions: Pair your patty melt with French fries, a side salad, or a bowl of soup for a complete meal
- Variations: Use different cheeses like Swiss, American, or pepper jack to customize the flavor
- Serving size: 4 patty melts
- Total cook time: Less than 30 minutes
What is a Patty Melt
A patty melt is a beef patty topped with Worcestershire sauce, in between two slices of bread and topped with melted cheese (typically swiss or cheddar - we used sharp cheddar), and if you prefer, onions. It is cooked on the stovetop instead of a BBQ like some cheeseburgers are. It takes the traditional hamburger but adds a sauce to make it juicier and soft, caramelized onions to make it more of a cheesy, toasty sandwich instead of a burger. It is traditionally made with rye bread but we used regular white bread and it was delicious!

We removed the Stone House seasoning, used an organic Worcestershire Sauce, removed caramelized onions, and replaced mild Cheddar cheese slices with Provolone cheese.
My fiancé Kevin will probably never admit it but he makes every type of food that I make, 1000% better. His dream when we first met was to open up a restaurant and I still think he should do that. Kevin made this recipe because he is a great cook and the way that he makes recipes his own is so unique and so good.
Why You Will Love These Patty Melts
• Simple ingredients you likely already have
• Ready in under 30 minutes - a quick family meal
• Great for picky eaters
• Crispy, buttery bread with melty cheese
What makes these different is how simple they are while still tasting like something you’d order at a diner. We kept the ingredients minimal but made a few swaps that really improved the flavor, especially with the cheese combination.
• Use thin patties so they cook evenly - you can use your hand to press down on the patties or put them in between wax paper and roll thin
• Don’t skip buttering the bread
• Cook on medium heat to avoid burning - if you cook too high, the outside will burn and the inside won't cook properly
