Easy and Delicious Ground Beef Sheet Pan Tacos

These ground beef sheet pan tacos are baked in the oven for a crispy, cheesy, and easy weeknight dinner.

Are you like me, where you make tacos and by the time you put them together, the shells or refried beans are already cold? I'm going to share with you my absolutely new favorite way to make tacos.

I have tried making tacos before where you add the uncooked meat on one side of the tortilla and then cook it and, let me tell you, it did not work out. I tried it again and again. For some reason, when I made these sheet pan tacos, it worked perfectly! You would think it would be soggy or gross, but once cooked, they are incredibly delicious. I combined ground beef on one side and refried beans on the other. Oh my gosh! I already have these on my dinner rotation to make again.

Here's a quick overview of this recipe:

• Difficulty Level: Intermediate
• Serving size: 4 tacos (can easily be doubled)
• Family friendly: YES - this is the second time we made this recipe in two weeks
• Total cook time: 30 minutes
• Family Rating: 9.5/10 - we loved it!

What Makes These Tacos Unique?

If you are wanting ground beef and cheese in every bite, these tacos are for you. You don't have to wait until you get to the bottom of the taco to enjoy the seasoned beef. Because of this, every bite is equally flavorful.

These are also unique because the ground beef is added to the tortilla before being cooked. It doesn't sound like it works, but because the layer is thin, it's able to cook all the way through.

What Inspired This Recipe?

I have attempted to make recipes like this twice before, and it did not work out. When I saw the original recipe from AllRecipes and saw the photo of these delicious sheet pan tacos, I couldn't help but try making this again. This is the first time I have tried making them in the oven - the other two were in the air fryer or on the stove.

We would make traditional tacos over and over and, quite honestly, I wanted something different. We made this recipe our own by omitting olive oil, chopped onion, green chiles, salt, and corn tortillas. Instead we used chipotle chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and flour tortillas.

Why This Recipe Works

This recipe works because the ground beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked, the cheese melts and browns the entire taco, the tortilla is perfectly browned, and you don't have to worry about your tortilla shell breaking or the ingredients falling out - everything is perfectly sealed and crisped together.

FAQ

Can you use taco seasoning instead of individual seasonings?
Absolutely. I haven't tried it with taco seasoning but I'm sure it will taste just as great!

Does the meat cook all the way?
Yes. I was initially concerned about whether it would cook fully, but because the layer is very thin, it cooks completely and safely. Once I folded my taco, I flattened it even more.

When do you add your toppings?
You can add them right before you flip over your tacos (while they are still cooking) or you can open them up when they come out of the oven and fill them. Even though I normally have sour cream in my tacos, I actually just dipped my taco in sour cream and it worked just as well.

What type of oven do you use?
I use a Cuisinart toaster oven so oven times may vary. Just keep an eye on them to make sure they don't burn.

How to Make Ground Beef Sheet Pan Tacos

✓ Step #1: Season the ground beef - Add ground beef to a bowl. Season with cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chipotle chili pepper, black pepper and mix with your hands. Set aside.

✓ Step #2: Heat tortillas - In a damp paper towel, wrap four tortillas and microwave until softened, about 30 seconds.

✓ Step #3: Divide ground beef and beans - Divide ground beef into four even sections. Add the ground beef to half of the tortilla and flatten it, making it very thin, on one half of each tortilla. It can extend past the tortilla. Add refried beans to the other half of the tortilla, again, in a very thin layer.

Top with shredded cheddar cheese.

✓ Step #4: Fold the taco - Fold each taco (and then flatten them again with your hand) and add all four of them to a PAM or cooking sprayed tray. Spray the top of the tortillas with PAM or cooking oil. Bake at 425 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

✓ Step #5: Finish baking - After 10-15 minutes they should have a nice crust and melted cheese. Flip them and spray the tops with cooking spray and cook for another 10-15 minutes.

✓ Step #6: Serve - The tacos should have a nice crisp (some areas may be burned depending on how you like them). Serve with sour cream and your choice of toppings. Enjoy!

How to Store and Reheat

Tacos are best eaten and served immediately. You can store the tacos in a sealed plastic container and reheat in the air fryer for 2-5 minutes until warm and crispy.
