Easy Baked Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls with Slow Cooker Chicken

In the first bite of these Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls, you will taste the flaky crust, tender and mild buffalo chicken with a balance of ranch seasoning, garlic powder and onion powder. The crescent roll is topped with a homemade garlic butter and adds a light sprinkle of Italian seasoning.

This is a meal that you don't want to pass up on. The chicken is slow cooked so it absorbs the buffalo wing sauce and all of the flavored seasonings. This is a really easy meal to make on a busy weekday or even on a weekend if you don't feel like cooking.

What Are Baked Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls?

Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls combine slow cooked chicken in a buffalo wing sauce, garlic powder, onion powder and ranch seasoning. They are added to a refrigerated crescent roll, topped with a slice of cheese and green onions, rolled up, and the roll is topped with a homemade garlic butter that is to die for and a light Italian seasoning on top. They are then baked, browned, and ready to eat.

These Baked Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls are crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, buttery and creamy in every bite. The green onions give it a good crunch and tang.

What Makes These Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls Different?

I love finding unique recipes, adding my own twist, and not feeling like I have to create the same type of dinners every night. The chicken in this recipe is slow cooked to perfection. From there, the chicken is also baked so it becomes a crispy, tangy and cheesy flavor bomb.

This meal doesn't take a lot of time or effort - and because I only use 2-3 chicken breasts, it was done way sooner than other slow cooker recipes I've made. This recipe is easy, family-friendly and doesn't have a lot of ingredients.

This recipe combines two of my favorite things into one - rolls and chicken. It's like a chicken sandwich that isn't your basic chicken sandwich.

What Inspired This Recipe?

I tend to plan out my recipes a week or two in advance. We have chicken every other day so I try and make recipes that aren't always similar to one another. This recipe was inspired by Insanely Good Recipes. We customized this recipe by slow cooking the chicken ahead of time and combining all ingredients in the slow cooker. We used sliced cheese instead of shredded cheese, and we did not use cream cheese as we did not have any.

Why This Recipe Works

This recipe works because it adds a little kick for flavor but is balanced out through ranch seasoning. It also has a cheesy, flaky, flavorful bite. It's surprisingly simple to make, it's hard to mess this recipe up. You can easily customize it by adding more or less buffalo wing sauce, different seasonings, you can add more cheese, more ranch seasoning, or even the cream cheese that we omitted.

The great thing about this slow cooker recipe is you can make this year-round - it's not a seasonal meal. It's something that can be made at any time and you can have it for lunch or dinner (even breakfast if you desire). In fact, I have a few left over and that's what I'm going to have for lunch today. They are also filling, yet light.

Who This Recipe is For

This recipe is family-friendly and can be made for adults and children alike. As long as you are okay with some light heat that can be adjusted, this is the perfect meal.

Substitutions

There are so many substitutions that can be made with this recipe. Feel free to adjust to your liking:
Add cream cheese - either in the slow cooker with the chicken or on top of the chicken in the crescent roll
Use less buffalo wing sauce - if you aren't a fan of heat, try using 1/4 cup buffalo wing sauce instead of 1/2
• Use shredded cheese - we used sliced cheese because that is all we had, but you can also use shredded cheese and any flavor of your choice
• Add more ranch seasoning - we used 3/4 of a ranch seasoning packet. If you want more balance, you can add the entire packet

FAQ

Do I have to slow cook the chicken?
You absolutely don't have to. You can buy rotisserie chicken or pre-shredded chicken and add the chicken, sauce and seasonings in a bowl and then add it to the crescent roll.

What if I don't like a lot of heat?
In this recipe there is 1/2 cup of buffalo wing sauce. I'm not a big fan of heat so I dipped the crescent roll in a light ranch dressing to offset it. You can also use more ranch seasoning or less buffalo wing sauce.

Pro Tips for the Best Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls

I use a Cuisinart toaster oven so oven times may vary. Our oven does tend to cook faster than a regular oven and they burn quickly so just keep an eye on them as they cook. No need to flip them either as the garlic butter is on the top. Ours did get fairly browned which provided the extra crisp which we enjoyed.

We did add green onions in the crescent roll and although I didn't mind it, there were times that I did take them out. They did add a nice crunch and tang. When I make these again, I will eliminate or top them with the green onion instead. I will also use more ranch seasoning and less buffalo sauce. I would also be curious on what texture the cream cheese would add to it so I also will change that as well.

Common Mistakes

Avoid overfilling the crescent rolls by adding just a spoonful or less of the chicken. As you roll it up, some may fall out which is okay, just make sure that it's not too full as you roll it.

To avoid overbaking, start at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Although the crescent rolls said 12-15 minutes, that would have completely burnt them in my oven.

Chicken, buffalo wing sauce, dry ranch seasoning dip and seasonings in a slow cooker.

✓ Step #2: Transfer to a bowl - After 2-3 hours, shred the chicken. If it needs to be cooked longer, or if the heat needs to be turned down, feel free to adjust as-needed. I added the chicken to a bowl separately while I prepared the crescent rolls.

✓ Step #3: Prepare the crescent rolls - Take out the refrigerated crescent rolls and peel the triangles. I added ours to a PAM-sprayed tray, and then made them one-by-one. To the biggest side of the crescent roll I added a spoonful of chicken, topped with a cheese square and green onions. Roll the crescent roll facing opposite of you and do this with all of the rolls.

✓ Step #4:  Make the garlic butter - In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the 1 tbsp butter. Add in the garlic powder using a small spoon and pour on top of all of the crescent rolls. Top with Italian seasoning.
