Easy Beef Lo Mein
Quick and easy Beef Lo Mein made with tender flank steak, soft noodles, and a flavorful sauce. A simple 10-minute weeknight dinner everyone loves.
I was browsing my email the other day and this Beef Lo Mein recipe popped out at me for two reasons - it looked easy and it was an Asian dish. We haven't had an international dish in quite some time so I decided to make this our own.
The flank steak was perfectly browned, the fusion of sauces soaked in with the noodles and made it the most simple, flavorful, weekday dish. Jace and I cleared our plates and even had leftovers.

Perfectly browned beef on a layer of soft noodles and sauce, topped with green onions and sesame seeds.

What You Will Love About This Beef Lo Mein
If you are looking for an easy weekday meal after a long day of school, work, and errands, this is the meal you will want to make. The ingredient list can look intimidating but once all of the ingredients are gathered, it's a fairly simple dish from there.
The beef was perfectly cooked and not dry, the noodles were soft and the sauce was salty (but not overpowering) and flavorful.

Inspiration Behind This Recipe
This recipe was inspired by Insanely Good Recipes. We did make this recipe our own by using garlic powder instead of garlic cloves, onion powder instead of sliced onion, we eliminated carrots, cabbage, and bean sprouts. We did not use a dark soy sauce, replaced sugar with Splenda, and used Rice Vinegar instead of Shaoxing Wine. We also used ground ginger in place of minced ginger and also omitted the salt.

- One pack of noodles (we used *Chow Mein Noodles)
- 1 pound Flank Steak, cut into slices
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
Ingredients for the Beef Lo Mein Marinade
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp cornstarch
Ingredients for the Beef Lo Mein Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (you can also use a low sodium option if you are health-conscious)
- *2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup beef broth (you can also use a low sodium option for this as well)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp cornstarch
Additional Toppings
- Green onions
- Sesame seeds
Note: I don't like seafood but I actually enjoy the taste of oyster sauce in Asian dishes. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it—it's not too fishy or too salty.
✓ Step #1: Combine the marinade - Add all marinade ingredients to a bowl along with the sliced flank stead, making sure it's all coated, and marinate for 10 minutes.
✓ Step #2: Cook noodles - Follow the directions on the noodle package - we cooked ours in the microwave for five minutes. Drain noodles.
Note: If your noodles come with a seasoning or sauce packet, be sure to remove and discard it—we won’t be using it in this recipe.
✓ Step #3: Add sauce ingredients to a bowl – In a bowl, add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, beef broth, sesame oil, oyster sauce, and cornstarch.
✓ Step #4: Cook beef: In a skillet, add 1 tbsp vegetable oil over high heat. In one single layer, add the flank steak and cook without stirring for one minute. After the one minute, stir fry the steak until browned, 1-2 minutes.
✓ Step #5: Add sauce – Turn the heat down to medium heat, add the garlic, ginger, and sauce into the skillet. Add the noodles and stir fry for another 2-3 minutes.
